New Data Resolutions
If one of your New Year’s Resolutions was not to listen to my rambling, here is the video’s (spoiler alert!) thrilling conclusion:
Now, of course, in order for this to truly count as one of your New Data Resolutions for 2011, you will have to provide your own WHY and WHAT that is specific to your organization’s enterprise data initiative.
After all, it’s not like I can eat healthier or exercise more often for you in 2011. Happy New Year!

Jim,
Really nice video, well thought out messaging around need for communication, collaboration and change management.
Need for articulating the big "Why" behind data initiatives cannot be overemphasized.
Obviously articulating the big "Why" involves communication and collaboration with people assets.
Well done...

Thanks for your great comment, Vish.
To quote from one of my favorite 2010 books, Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard:
“What looks like resistance is often a lack of clarity. Ambiguity is the enemy. Change begins at the level of individual decisions and behaviors. To spark movement in a new direction, you need to provide crystal-clear guidance.”
Happy New Year and Best Regards,

Oh yeah Jim! You nailed it! It's all about the people! A gazillion years from now when we don't even have data but chips in our heads that read our thoughts, we'll still have the people problems.
Reminds me of a slogan I use often when people actually take the time to explain their reasons: "You had me at why" :-)
Thanks for your awesome comment, Jill.
Yes, even after they start embedding the computer chips directly into our brains at birth (otherwise known as the top secret iBaby experiment at Apple), we will still have the people problems :-)
Happy New Year and Best Regards,
Jim
